Son writes about Kaiser’s mistreatment of parents

By | June 12, 2006

From the son of two long-time Kaiser members:

The health care my parents receive from Kaiser should be called anything but health care much less personal health care. There have been many incident over recent years but the most recent is the most enraging.

My father had been experiencing dizziness, headaches and shortness of breath for over a year. About seven months ago he was given an echochardiogram and as always was told not to call for the results as they would notify us if there was anything that required attention.

A few weeks ago, my father went to Kaiser for neck pain and while reviewing his chart the doctor said, “And of course you know about the heart problem?” And of course, my parents were never made aware of the fact that my father had a bad aortic valve which is now scheduled to be replaced in two weeks. Once this was made known to my parents he was immediately told to not do anything exerting, or heavy lifting which he had been doing.

How can they call themselves health care providers and what can I do to let Kaiser know what a horrible experience, to say the least, my parents have consistently had?

You just did.

Kaiser does this all the time. My sister was never told she had scoliosis until she found out on her own when she got a copy of her medical records, which took months to get due to Kaiser’s stalling.

My uncle wasn’t told by Kaiser he had a heart problem, and he was later denied individual insurance by another company for “lying” about his health on the application. When he complained to Kaiser they swore they told him, like he would have forgotten something like that!

Our whole family used to have Kaiser (19 of us!), but we all got out of there earlier this year. I want to vomit every time I see one of those bogus Thrive commercials.

I am so glad I found this site. I am helping a friend right now, who is trying to sue Kaiser for Mal-Practice. She has been trying for almost a year to find an attorney who will take her case. One attorney paid an expert to go through the records, and found that Kaiser was at fault. Her statute of limitations is almost up, and Kaiser is insisting that she show up in court very soon with an attorney. Also, when you sign up with Kaiser you agree that if you sue, you will use their mediators and arbitrators. How fair is that? I am officially joining the band wagon. My grandfather once fell out of a tree. It was obvious even to a layman that he broke his wrist, but he landed on his back and was complaining of pain there. They took no x-rays of his spine, they just casted his wrist(with oak leaves still stuck to his skin)and kept him overnight. Several weeks later, the pain was too much and he went to a chiropractor. He took x-rays, and asked my Grandfather when he broke his back. Kaiser is a butcher shop that needs to be shut down!!!!
