Kaiser employee,,,numerous situations of my own personal incidents with kaiser that were either gross negligence or totally misdiagnosed, and very poorly handled, not to mention the adjusting of the records,,,,it is just not right,,,all the lawyers say Kaiser too hard to sue..so I guess that means...just go along for the ride...Mr. Obama doesn't have a clue about what is going on at Kaiser and if he is going to use it as a model....wow,,,we are going to be so much worse...

My story follows the same story after story on this blog. Although I am a many year Kaiser employee, and I depend on the medical care I have encountered over 5 "incidents" where there is/was gross negligence and their cure was either more pills, psychiatrist, go to gym (127 lbs/ 5'7), they wrote drug seeking behavior on my chart due to a complete avulsion of a quad muscle accident, misdiagnosed for 2 years they kept telling me it was nothing,,exercise more, it must be a hematoma, it will take months to go away and they were not the least bit interested in helping me or finding out what was wrong. After I started to research my symptoms and reviewing my care , I first told the doctor what I thought it was after doing all my homework he laughed and me told me to lose weight and that he would order a mri just to show me I was wrong..turns out total avulsion of muscle,,,couldn't be repaired, no one in kaiser had done it. Well we found one kaiser doctor who had done ONE, after mine, he had done two...mine didn't work and 2 months in a wheelchair later,,I was told we could try it again.Kaiser denied me going to another surgeon who actually had experiance,,yes they love to practice and try new things on us as patients, without the expertise...I wont even go into the breast lump that I talk to 3 of my doctors about, no one, thats right not one "touched it" they all said it was scar because I had breast augmentation and revision 3 times. finally after mammogrom over and over i refused to leave the room until my primary touched what I felt,,,oh its nothing..yep and added "you are such a cry baby" I will send you to a surgeon just to prove it is nothing, The surgeon said the same sentence,,,your such a cry baby and it is just a scar, gee you had your breasts done 3 times?,,,well, the ultrasound found what I felt, after two years of complaining. To make it short, and it wasn't, the metastatic breast cancer that spread into my lymph nodes was treated with a bilateral mastectomy and six long months of chemotherapy, complete with all the side effects that I was told, never happen, and they say,,we are really sorry. Me Too. but after the incisions infected and my doctor was on another vacation the vascular surgeon covering wants to take me to surgery again I asked him how many of this type of case he had done,,,that answer was none so..I asked for a plastic surgeon,,too bad not available,,it was said well it is friday.I had to stop chemo and then thank goodness I worked for a local wonderful plastic surgeon who took me to surgery the next morning and fixed the Kaiser Mess... I healed quickly, lost all confidence in Kaiser and I know they do not write the truth in the computer. I ask to see it when I go in and I ask to see what they write. for my leg they called it a minor repair of muscle,,on my mri complete avulsion of muscle, I asked them to change it,,and he did,,,so how is that done,,I will tell you, they can go back and add anything they want and they love the computer now because the handwriting was really a problem when you try to adjust the chart to keep yourself out of trouble.
My daughter was treated for sore ankles , they told us it was nothing at age 14,at college scholarship acceptance and entrance a chiropractor was looking at her ankles and asked why she hadn't had her "tarsal colition" repaired prior to college. When we went back to the podiatry, same doctor he said oh she will grow out of it..not....now another podiatrist at kaiser wants to fuse her ankle, she will never bend it again and the first podiatrist retired early after some other incidents and complaints,,,very timely. That is the same daughter of mine who had a miscarriage at week 14, D and C and two days later complains of belly pain,,,back to kaiser ultrasound and I see something,,me a novice,,Dr. says oh that will pass, antibotics and lots of sickdays with belly pain,,week after week calling to talk to dr, worried that she was not getting better,,,,really badly bleeding and THREE MONTHS LATER

I agree.Try Kaiser on Maui=OVERT corruption; unchallenged. They are evil. They have ruined my life and continue to mistreat me.
Can't we take these THOUSANDS of complaints to the gov't to get action?
Or am I just too naiive?

as a healthcare professional in training i have to comment ... these problems are not unique to kaiser, but are definitely being magnified by the high load of patients and the open mantra of managed care. every healthcare organization, hospital or insurance company has to manage its financials... and decisions are made to force certain treatments or medications on their patients that may not be ideal but balance benefit and outcomes on a population wide scale, not on an individual basis. also changes in practice standard are made only to comply with regulations and retain medicare funding or comply with federal laws. in general changes are not going to be made proactively to be more "ideal" as long as everyone seems to be doing "fine". i have seen severe mistakes by otherwise incredibly competent phsyicians NOT at kaiser, and these errors are covered up by uncertain diagnoses, vague speculations towards other causes, and physicians and the healthcare team supporting one another in avoiding outright blame to preserve the relationship with the patient...and i have seen physicians make very reasonable diagnoses and decisions, only to see a patient worsen... we are all human, and mistakes do happen, and every treatment has its risks and failures... so what would you do as a healthcare provider if after reviewing 100s of charts, you mix up a number, maybe mix up a patient, and a patient is harmed by your mistake... patient often recovers, or may have a complication... then do you throw your career away by admitting fault to your patient, lose their trust and end up in a malpractice suit based on one mistake out of the hundreds of patients you have saved-- do you stop practicing? i am not saying one way is wrong or right, but there are realities...EVERYONE makes mistakes, even well trained professionals. honestly I am dreadfully frightened of being admitted to ANY hospital. even if you could afford fancier insurance and "better" care, mistakes can happen. and you might not even know. i whole heartedly call for reform and better processes to avoid medical errors... kaiser which is one of the largest employers in california is only just the tip of the problem and an easy target to focus on. all i know is that for now i am going to save as much as i can to pay for healthcare regardless of health insurance!

dear friends. I am saddened and at the same time thrilled to find you dear sweet people on this site. i have been sent home again and again every time i have a problem without treatment. i have a lasting problem because of it. I had no idea that they were doing this to other people. i must have known. I am confused though, that whenever i am with kaiser i am sick with no treatment LIKE THEY DON'T BELIEVE I'M IN PAIN. they withhold care and pretend i have a problem that is only in my head. I explain, why would i be missing work/school life to drive over here and be told there is nothing wrong. They are doing this. they are withholding TREATMENT. This makes sense. they have written things in my chart because i was sick for three years without proper diagnosis to make it look like i have psych problems, which i do not. Also, i was in level 10 pain for three years, unable to work and they would not help me or even suggest pain killers. This is insane. I'm angry and don't want to tell you what happened because it's a woman issue and i feel like a fool for letting them tell me i was nuts. as an example, they did a bladder procedure on me without anesthesia and then told me i didn't need pain meds. i kept going twice a week for a two/three years and they kept saying nothing was wrong and what i had/have is completely easy to diagnose just by looking. they left me in pain for three years and not once tried to help me. i came to the urgent care every day after work for weeks and they would just look at me in an OB/GYN type way and send me home. i gave up many times but was too sick to not keep trying. i am much better than i was, but i didn't realize this was a standard problem for everyone. Had they been properly trained, they would have seen and easily diagnosed me. i saw too many doctors to even mention before getting a proper diagnosis. I am sorry for all of us that we aren't rich and can't afford better coverage with doctors that care for us. i am sorry for your illnesses and the loss of your friends and loved ones and your children and parents. please know that you are not alone. I am here and I care about you and your frustrations even though i am not schooled enough to treat you. I just wanted to write you all and say, me too and thank you.

Your email to the Attorney General states:

This is a Consumer complaint against the business/company named below

Company Name: Kaiser Permanante

Comment Or Question Message: Office of the California Attorney General

Public Inquiry Unit - Via online complaint center

Recently I visited the Kaiser Permanente Website for Southern California.

Since my individual Health Insurance premium with Kaiser has ballooned to $800.00 per month - up from $350.00 per month in just a short period of time - I was seeking alternative and lower priced plans from Kaiser.

I found a program offered by Kaiser the "Steps Plan" advertised on the website - advertised - as being for folks just like me who can no longer afford their health insurance premiums.

This "Steps Plan" offered a greatly reduced premium - for period of 4 years - after which the premium would reset to the current regular rate for that particular individual plan.

Upon contacting Kaiser - and asking to be enrolled in the "Steps Plan" - I was informed that - all of the sudden the Steps Plan program was no longer available.

I filed a grievance with Kaiser asserting that because the Steps Plan was offered on the website at the time of my visit - it should be made available to me.

Kaiser responded with an apology over the fact that the plan had not been removed from their website and denied in writing my plea to rightfully receive what was advertised to me.

Aside from the Medical Insurance regulators for the State of California to whom I am also corresponding - I am asking that the Attorney General's Office pursue my complaint - because amongst other violations - Kaiser's behavior amounted to False and Misleading Advertising.

I have all of the saved advertisements from their website and all of the written correspondence relating to the denial of Products and Services as Advertised.

Please contact me at any future time - for additional information and copies of documents relating to this complaint.

Your files might also indicate that this is not the first time that I have sought assistance from your Agency regarding Kaiser Permanente of Southern California.

I found a program offered by Kaiser the “Steps Plan” advertised on the website - advertised - as being for folks just like me who can no longer afford their health insurance premiums.

This “Steps Plan” offered a greatly reduced premium - for period of 4 years - after which the premium would reset to the current regular rate for that particular individual plan.

Upon contacting Kaiser - and asking to be enrolled in the “Steps Plan” - I was informed that - all of the sudden the Steps Plan program was no longer available.
